Post-Publication Discussion
Jurnal Pedagogi: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan encourages constructive scholarly discussion, critical evaluation, and the exchange of perspectives on articles published in the journal. Post-publication discussion allows educators, researchers, and practitioners to raise questions, identify potential errors, and present alternative interpretations of published educational and pedagogical research. In accordance with COPE guidance on post-publication discussions, Jurnal Pedagogi provides opportunities for scholarly debate and maintains transparent procedures for correcting, revising, or retracting published articles when necessary.
1. Scope of Post-Publication Discussion
Jurnal Pedagogi welcomes scholarly comments, letters to the editor, methodological critiques, and academic responses that contribute meaningfully to the discourse surrounding previously published articles. Submissions may address educational research methods, classroom data interpretation, pedagogical interventions, assessment models, analytical approaches, conclusions, or broader implications for educational theory, instructional practice, and educational policy.
The editorial team will assess whether a critique is relevant, evidence-based, and focused on the scholarly content of the article. Submissions containing personal attacks, unsupported allegations, or potentially defamatory statements will be rejected. This process is informed by COPE guidance on handling post-publication critiques.
2. Submission of Comments and Critiques
Readers, teachers, and educational researchers wishing to submit comments or critiques should contact the Jurnal Pedagogi editorial office through the official contact information available on the journal website. Submissions should clearly identify the published article concerned, articulate the scholarly issues constructively, and provide supporting empirical evidence, pedagogical reasoning, or relevant literature citations where appropriate.
All submissions must employ professional academic language and focus strictly on the educational and scholarly substance of the published work. The journal will evaluate each submission to determine whether it merits editorial consideration, revision, or independent expert assessment, guided by COPE guidance on post-publication critiques.
3. Editorial Assessment
The Editor-in-Chief or a designated section editor will assess each submission independently. Depending on the nature and complexity of the pedagogical or methodological issue raised, Jurnal Pedagogi may consult educational subject-matter experts or request independent peer review before reaching a decision.
The assessment will consider the relevance of the critique, the quality of its supporting evidence, its scholarly contribution to educational science, and whether the concerns warrant a formal response from the original authors or further investigation. The journal may request clarification or revisions before deciding whether to publish a critique.
Jurnal Pedagogi applies a fair and transparent editorial workflow when handling critiques and responses, following the principles outlined in COPE's guidance on post-publication debate and academic critique.
4. Right of Reply
When a critique is deemed substantive and suitable for publication, Jurnal Pedagogi will normally invite the author or authors of the original article to submit a formal response. The response should address the issues directly and provide relevant counter-evidence, pedagogical justification, or scholarly clarification.
The critique and the authors' response may be published together or sequentially, depending on editorial considerations and the journal's publication schedule. Both submissions may undergo editorial screening and peer review to ensure scholarly rigor.
If the original authors decline or fail to respond within a reasonable deadline specified by the editorial office, Jurnal Pedagogi may proceed with publishing the critique, accompanied by an editorial note indicating that an invitation to respond was extended but no response was received. This procedure complies with COPE guidance on handling post-publication critiques and responses.
5. Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions
If a post-publication discussion identifies a substantive error, methodological flaw, or serious ethical issue that affects the reliability or integrity of a published article, Jurnal Pedagogi will evaluate the evidence and determine appropriate corrective action. Depending on the gravity of the issue, the journal may issue a formal Correction (Erratum/Corrigendum), an Expression of Concern, or a Retraction.
A correction is appropriate when an honest error or minor calculation can be rectified without invalidating the article's core findings or educational conclusions. An expression of concern may be considered when serious questions regarding research integrity remain unresolved or an institutional investigation is ongoing. A retraction is warranted when the findings are proven unreliable, data have been fabricated or falsified, plagiarism is confirmed, or serious ethical breaches have compromised the pedagogical research.
All decisions regarding retractions are governed strictly by the COPE Retraction Guidelines, ensuring that notices clearly and transparently articulate the grounds for retraction. Where necessary, Jurnal Pedagogi may consult the authors' institutions, university ethics committees, or educational research boards.
6. Publication and Accessibility
Accepted critiques, commentaries, and author responses will be published on the Jurnal Pedagogi website in accordance with the journal's editorial standards. When a correction, expression of concern, or retraction notice is issued, it will be prominently linked bi-directionally to the original published article to maintain a transparent and permanent scholarly record.
This practice ensures readers are immediately informed of the article's current status, consistent with COPE guidelines on corrections and retractions.
7. Ethical Responsibilities
All contributors participating in post-publication discussions are expected to maintain professional integrity, provide verifiable citations and data, and refrain from misrepresenting opposing arguments. Authors responding to critiques should address scholarly points with collegiality, and critics must substantiate their assertions with appropriate pedagogical evidence.
Jurnal Pedagogi manages post-publication discourse impartially, ensuring that academic criticism remains distinct from personal grievances. This policy is informed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices. Jurnal Pedagogi reviews and updates these procedures periodically to uphold research integrity and trust in educational scholarship.
